A graduate of Cornell University’s computer science program, Ben Pu has several years of experience working as a computer scientist. Beyond his professional activities, Ben Pu supports nonprofit organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign, a group that works to protect and promote the rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community.
The Human Rights Campaign is preparing to host its annual Time to Thrive national conference, which will be held April 28-30, 2017, in Washington, DC. Presented in partnership with the American Counseling Association and the National Education Association, the three-day event focuses on promoting the safety and well-being of LGBTQ youth.
Educators, physicians, counselors, religious leaders, and other youth-serving professionals from across the country will gather at the conference to take part in an education program comprising workshops on topics such as bullying prevention, gender-inclusive schools, foster care, gender diversity, and LGBTQ advocacy. Time to Thrive 2017 will also feature presentations from several well-known speakers, including New York Times columnist Charles Blow and award-winning journalist Katie Couric. During the event, Couric will receive the Human Rights Campaign’s Upstander Award for her work on advancing the understanding of gender and LGBTQ issues.
